70's AESTHETIC

The 1970s was the time of important changes: the sexual revolution, growing development of the women's liberation movement, nationwide protests against the war in Vietnam and of course the boom of the hippie culture. It is also the time of some of the most iconic movies with a like of "Saturday Night Fever" and "Charlie's Angels" being played in cinemas and all-time famous music band "ABBA" having their songs played in every club on the high streets. All these things had a strong influence on fashion as being a tool for expressing your own personality and individualism. Welcome to 70’s aesthetic!

FASHION STYLES OF THE 70'S

Fashion in the 70’s can be divided in to three main groups: hippie, disco and punk style. Although each of these trends is so different, they all have one main thing in common - a strong association with socio-political changes or music. Lets take a closer look at them.

70's aesthetic

HIPPIE

Probably one of the most known trends of all time. Hippies were rebellious, young people and often called flower children. Their main values were living in harmony with nature, being rebellious against restrictions, institutionalism and having strong support for freedom. What did they wear? Most importantly natural, light materials such us linen or cotton. Anything with floral, colorful patterns or at least in earthy tones was most preferred. Long skirts, flared pants, denim vests and long, loose hair tied with a headband were the most iconic features of this style.

PUNK

In general, punk style was about minimalistic type of outfit that will go against the accepted norms. The main characteristics of this trend are dark color simple t-shirts often with punk music bands, ripped jeans often with added on safety pins, leather accessories with a like of necklace choker, heavy, leather type shoes, motorcycle jacket and strong makeup (black eye shadow, dark lipstick etc.)

DISCO

As the name suggests, the trend was strongly connected with disco music. Young people that loved at the time this type of music were known to wear shimmering materials, short skirts, spandex shorts, sequins and frills. Everything that will bring more shine and grab attention under the disco ball.
